The Fredericton Marathon won the Community Impact Award at the recent Fredericton Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards.

Recognizing outstanding achievement in business and community involvement, awards were presented in nine categories, including community impact.

“We would like to express our sincere thanks to participants, sponsors, volunteers, community partners, committee members and friends for making this Fredericton Chamber of Commerce Community Impact Award possible,” said co-race directors Christine Little and Bruce Macfarlane.

The marathon’s volunteer organizing committee – Karen, Karen, Paul, Steve, Lori, Kim, Bob, Linda, Ben, Adam, Nick, Dianne, Christine and Bruce – devotes a lot of time and energy year-round to put on New Brunswick’s largest marathon event every May.

Giving back to the community is one of the committee’s top priorities. Over the past 11 years alone, the marathon has granted more than $121,147 to various Fredericton community groups through its grant program and the co-directors say they are looking forward to increasing this amount next May. Members of the Fredericton Marathon volunteer organizing committee gathered at the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards to celebrate winning the Community Impact Award.
