This Elite 5 km event will take place in Fredericton’s downtown core on a fast, flat, and certified route of two loops starting on Queen Street by the Officers Square, running to and along Saint Anne’s Point Dr and finishing beside the Garrison Skatepark, located behind the Armoury.
The Fredericton Marathon is proud to receive an Athletics Canada Road Race Label for its 5k event during its May 2025 race weekend.
“Hosting a road race label event will attract elite Canadian Athletes to our amazing city and help support their dreams of chasing international time standards and dreams,” said Christine Little and Bruce Macfarlane, co-race directors of the Fredericton Marathon.” This road race label status is a first for Atlantic Canada, making it the only race east of Quebec City part of the 2025 Athletics Canada Road Race Label program.”
“We are thrilled to award the Fredericton Marathon with a 2025 Athletics Canada Road Race Label,” said Chris Winter, Athletics Canada Director of Domestic Programs and Safe Sport. “These events represent the pinnacle of Road Racing in Canada, not just in terms of their elite competitions but also their overall participant experience.”
As part of the Stewart McKelvey Fredericton Marathon 47th anniversary, the elite 5k will take part on the morning of Saturday, May 10th followed by the traditional Fredericton Marathon 5k. Both 5k events will take place in the city’s downtown core on a fast, flat, and certified route of two loops starting on Queen Street by the Officers Square running to and along Sainte Anne’s Point Dr and finishing beside the Garrison Skatepark, located behind the Armoury.
Further details about registration process and qualifying standards will be unveiled for the elite 5k later this month.
The Athletics Canada Road Race Label program is committed to raising the athlete experience at existing Canadian races by improving consistency in competitive events and categories, reducing the amount of travel required by Canadian athletes, and increasing the number of competitions whereby Canadian athletes can earn valuable World Ranking points. The program also aims to provide development opportunities to current and prospective national team athletes, and to support a National Road Race Series Anti-Doping Program facilitated by the Canadian Centre of Ethics in Sport (CCES).
