The Stewart McKelvey Fredericton Marathon May Race Weekend will occur Sept. 3-5, 2021, Labour Day weekend.

“The health and safety of everyone involved in the event – the participants, volunteers and spectators – must come first,” said Christine Little and Bruce Macfarlane, co-race directors of the Fredericton Marathon.

When the Fredericton Marathon volunteer organizing committee began planning our 2021 event, we truly believed that we would be able to put on an in-person marathon weekend in May. We chose a backup date for September, mainly because 2020 taught us that the unexpected can happen – but we didn’t really think we would need it. However, mid-January came with a rising number of cases and new COVID-19 variants. It is now mid-February and we are in a prolonged state of Orange (or an even stricter alert level, depending on where you live). Understanding the future is unpredictable and with little talk of re-establishing the Atlantic Bubble, the committee has made the decision to postpone our event to our backup date of September 3-5 (Labour Day weekend).

“We know this isn’t ideal, and it is not a decision we made easily or lightly,” added the co-race directors. “We are runners as well and we were so excited to be part of an in-person event.”
