June 24, 1971 – June 2, 2021

Like so many in the running community, we at the Fredericton Marathon are saddened by the death of Mark Kirby. Today, we bid farewell to someone who was larger than life, with his big smile, love of terrible puns and enthusiasm for running.

Mark introduced countless people to the sport, always ready to offer advice, support and a warm welcome to anyone who needed it. Mark had a talent for making people believe they could overcome any challenge. He took part in our events on many occasions – and when he wasn’t running, he was on the sidelines taking photos and cheering everyone on.

The Fredericton Marathon volunteer committee extends heartfelt condolences to Mark’s family and countless friends. We will miss him, but take comfort in knowing he will live on in the many lives he has positively impacted. Mark’s was truly a life well lived – rest in peace, dear friend.
