Fredericton Marathon Launches Community Fund
in Partnership with Fredericton Community Foundation

The Fredericton Marathon is proud to announce the launch of the Fredericton Marathon Community Fund, a permanent endowment established in partnership with the Fredericton Community Foundation. This fund will provide long-term support for charitable causes in Fredericton, ensuring a lasting impact for generations to come.

“The Fredericton Marathon has always been about more than running—it’s about building community.” said Christine Little, marathon co-race director.

For 48 years, the Fredericton Marathon has brought people together through sport, celebration, and community spirit. With the creation of this fund, the Marathon’s legacy expands beyond the race itself, offering runners, volunteers, supporters, and residents a meaningful way to give back to the community that hosts this beloved annual event.

Contributions to the Fredericton Marathon Community Fund will be invested and managed in perpetuity by the Fredericton Community Foundation. Annual earnings generated from the fund will be directed toward charitable initiatives that align with the Marathon’s mission of fostering health, wellness, and community connection. All donations, regardless of size, are pooled together to maximize impact, and official tax receipts are issued for every gift.

“This fund ensures that the spirit of the Marathon continues to strengthen Fredericton for years to come.” added Bruce Macfarlane, co-race director.

How to Contribute:

The Fredericton Community Foundation, a registered charity specializing in endowments, will oversee the fund’s management, guaranteeing that every contribution continues to benefit the community far into the future.

IMPORTANT YOUTH FUN RUN ANNOUNCEMENT

The Trites Orthodontics Youth Fun Run is an important part of the annual Stewart McKelvey Fredericton Marathon.

This year, for safety reasons, the Youth Fun Run is moving to the city’s Northside and will take place at the Nashwaaksis Middle School Track on Saturday, May 11th, at 2:00 pm.

“Ensuring everyone’s safety is paramount, which is why we made the decision to relocate the popular Youth Fun Run,” said Bruce Macfarlane and Christine Little, co-race directors of the Fredericton Marathon.

Moving the Youth Fun Run to the Northside track will provide a more secure area to host the 500 metre and one kilometre event for children, parents, organizers, and volunteers.

Parents/guardians will be required to pick up their child’s race shirt and bib at the marathon’s Race Kit Pick-Up at Delta Hotels by Marriott Fredericton.

“We understand that this move may be a little inconvenient, but we want to make certain everyone is off the streets and safe,” said Macfarlane and Little. The TritesOrtho Youth Fun Run is open to children two-12 years of age, features 500 metre and one kilometre events, and costs $8.75 plus taxes and fees.

FREDERICTON MARATHON WINS COMMUNITY IMPACT AWARD

The Fredericton Marathon won the Community Impact Award at the recent Fredericton Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards.

Recognizing outstanding achievement in business and community involvement, awards were presented in nine categories, including community impact.

“We would like to express our sincere thanks to participants, sponsors, volunteers, community partners, committee members and friends for making this Fredericton Chamber of Commerce Community Impact Award possible,” said co-race directors Christine Little and Bruce Macfarlane.

The marathon’s volunteer organizing committee – Karen, Karen, Paul, Steve, Lori, Kim, Bob, Linda, Ben, Adam, Nick, Dianne, Christine and Bruce – devotes a lot of time and energy year-round to put on New Brunswick’s largest marathon event every May.

Giving back to the community is one of the committee’s top priorities. Over the past 11 years alone, the marathon has granted more than $121,147 to various Fredericton community groups through its grant program and the co-directors say they are looking forward to increasing this amount next May. Members of the Fredericton Marathon volunteer organizing committee gathered at the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards to celebrate winning the Community Impact Award.
